‘When I first started training with Angus, my top three goals were focused on diet, weight loss, and toning. Coming from a high-stress job, I needed a structured approach to manage my weight and overall health. I was particularly concerned with developing a sustainable eating plan that would complement my training efforts and help me shed excess weight while toning my body. These goals were critical for me as I sought to counteract the negative physical effects of stress and build a healthier lifestyle.
One of the most significant things I learned during my time with Angus was the importance of proper technique, particularly in weightlifting. When I first started, I had two main goals:
#1 was to lose weight. #2 was to build some muscles and look healthy and attractive.
As I’ve continued with Angus, I’ve surprised myself with an additional goal, to see just how far I can go, and how strong I can get. Learning to trust my body and its capabilities has been a huge learning curve for me, and Angus balances that perfectly with pushing me to go a bit harder, or reigning me back when I get a bit too eager.
I’ve noticed a massive improvement to all of my techniques since working with Angus, even the basic exercises like squats or planks. And I’ve noticed these improvements even through my day to day life – posture, balance etc.
And finally, Angus’ take on managing stress, not ‘overfilling’ the stress cup whether it’s physical, mental or emotional, is a lesson I will be using and passing on for the rest of my life.
My physical strength and stamina is definitely where I have seen the biggest improvement, 12 months ago I would never have believed I’d be doing the things I can do now.
Previously one of calf muscles would cramp in the middle of the night, a couple times a month; since working with Angus, this hasn’t been an issue at all.
Overall, my mind/body relationship has never been better and my self-positivity has skyrocketed over the last year. Being able to speak to Angus openly about these things has been a big part of this journey, and not only taught me how to push through that final stretch, but also feel less guilty about taking a much needed rest.
Angus’ communication skills with me as a client are amazing; setting good expectations as a client/PT, communicating around running late, the feedback forms, talking about the exercises I’m doing as well as just being able to have a laugh between sets. I find that we strike a really good balance as a PT/client but also respecting each other as acquaintances/human beings, without overstepping. And that works really well for me.

My initial goals when starting training with Angus were weight loss & strength and conditioning.
Angus has a great understanding of functional anatomy which he not only applies to optimising general technique but also to tailoring my program to accommodate injury and physical limitations. Since working with Angus I have been diagnosed with congenital hip dysplasia and subsequent severe hip arthritis. Angus has developed a program for me which allows for lower limb strength training without aggravating my problematic joint. He has improved my range of movement and optimised function.
My adherence to diet and following macros have improved significantly whilst working with Angus. He has kept me focused and motivated. Gains beget gains!

The top 3 things I learnt were: Technique for a range of machines and movements, stretching exercises, intensity and pacing guidance, good reinforcement on nutrition. I also improved my muscle strength, sense of greater control over my body, and reduced knee pain.
Initially, I had reservations around cost, and engaging in something onerous and unsustainable. Angus was able to help me through my reservations and I felt I got good value with workout plans, a focus on empowering me to drive my fitness, and lots of tools offered like tracking food. Whilst tracking food is not something I do, the process has definitely reinforced my internal discipline.
I like that Angus encourages but is also respectful of the other factors that influence exercise habits. There’s no shame, just a chilled positive energy. I really enjoyed that.

My goal was simply to build strength and become more comfortable weightlifting in the gym. I am quite injury-conscious, so my biggest takeaway was that I’m not made of glass and can push myself a lot harder than I originally thought.
I definitely feel a lot stronger than when I started (which was my goal), particularly in upper body strength. I can see definition in my back, which certainly wasn’t there before. More importantly, these training sessions had such a positive impact on my overall mood day-to-day.

Firstly, Angus showed me the correct way to use gym machines, how to keep correct form in doing exercises. I am a visual learner and he was very patient considering I am a novice at using the equipment. I also loved the app information he sent via email regarding nutrition.
The outcome is that if I stick to a regular presence, the results are definitely there. I am proud that my planking time increased over the course of a month.

I wanted to start training again after pregnancy and a traumatic c-section and I am getting married in February next year.. I wanted to feel stronger and start losing some weight. I learned that I am stronger than I think (I can hold the plank for longer!!)
I’m most proud of going to the gym and gaining back the confidence in my own body being ready to do so.
